Recently the Returnem’ team was fortunate enough to meet with Elvee Brisbane and Trish Clark of the Lions club Toowoomba, the president and representative spoke passionately to us about ring pulls, their charity and all things recycling!
During the chat we touched base on how cool it was to see so many kids and adults recycling within the area, however we also learnt there is opportunity for us all to do even more.
By recycling the donated ring pulls (the tiny piece of aluminium you use to open each can) The Toowoomba Lions Club is raising funds to help find a cure/breakthrough for Chronic Spinal Injury (CSI). With 300-400 new cases each year and a total of 15000 people (84% male) already suffering from it daily, CSI is a heavy issue that needs to be carefully tended to by all. When hearing about this we knew we immediately wanted to help… but we need your help too. It only takes a sec and there’s multiple locations throughout our depot to leave them.
Once we’ve collected enough Ring-Pulls, we deliver them to the Lions Club of Toowoomba, who in turn sees it through to either lifeworx, a company that crafts wheelchairs out of the pulls, or to a metal recycler, where funds can be obtained before being donated to StepAhead, the current Australian company researching for a CSI breakthrough.
In the end the idea of pushing for medical breakthroughs via material recycling just seems pretty cool, it’s something easy as to get behind and it’s always just that little bit better for the environment and community as a whole ♻️
Be sure to check out the video on our Return’em For Cash facebook page, some words from both Elvee and Trish shedding more light on CSI and what our ring pull locations look like.
